Below are Electronics related ( Access Control, CCTV ) training courses that took place at MLA Expo.

MLA Expo previously took place at the Telford International Centre from the 2nd to the 4th of October. Over the course of Expo over 40 training courses were on offer during the 3 days.

Course Tutor: Chris Taylor

Chris Taylor started in the industry in the 1970’s and has always had a fascination for the combination lock and the lineage of the locks as they progressed from only being considered ‘secondary locks’ to being trusted to fully lock safes and vaults in banks. Chris has owned his own company in Manchester since 1989 and is a past National Chairman of the Association and currently is the Northern Region chairman. Chris sits on various technical committees and has recently served on the N.O.S. working group helping to write the training standards for the industry.

Dates & Times of Course: Sunday 4th October, 10:30 – 14:30 (Su4)

Course Duration: 4 Hours

Course Content:

As the title implies, this course will give you the basics that are involved in getting into electronic access control. It will cover:-

  • Theory of AC/DC current
  • Amps, Volts, Ohms
  • Use of Multimeters
  • Explanation of power supply units
  • Installation best practice
  • Use of relays and how they work
  • Fault finding

Yale Smart Security – Digital and Connected Devices

Course Tutor: Rob Adams (Yale) & David Crossman (MLA)

A serving MLA Board Director, Dave Crossman has been in the industry for well over 25 years. He started D.E.S. Door Entry Systems Ltd. from a shop/office in Westcliff-on-Sea in 1985 in order to maintain intercom systems. In 1988, the business moved to Kent for a brief spell and then back to Canvey Island in 1990.  With the opening of the first shop on Canvey island, the business expanded to include domestic Locksmiths as well as commercial intercom maintenance and installation.

The company has expanded the Locksmiths to include commercial key suites, car keys, keyed-a-like products and restricted key suites whilst also installing and maintaining intercom systems as well as advanced access control and emergency exit systems, alarms, gates, grilles and CCTV.

Rob Adams, CCTV Product Manager at Yale UK, has worked closely with the connected products for several years and is a key member of the Smart Living team. Rob has been a full time employee at Yale for four years, working with the team on Yale’s smart living products, including the Easy Fit CCTV, Easy Fit Alarms and Smart Locks.
