Below are NDE ( Non Destructive Entry ) related training courses that took place at MLA Expo.

MLA Expo previously took pace at the Telford International Centre from the 2nd to the 4th of October. Over the course of Expo over 40 training courses were on offer during the 3 days.


Lock Decoding

Course Tutor: Geraint Jones

GJ Locks are a family run company with Honesty and Integrity at the core of our business. We are mobile Locksmiths in Bridgend, and we service the whole of South Wales.

They also design our own range of tools for the locksmith industry. Our current range includes:-

Course Duration: 2 Hours

Course Content:

  • Exclusive MLA demo on the NEW ERA Vectis decoder (Actual stocks ready mid October)
  • Introduction to Plastercine decoding, Union 2134E Chubb 3u114E and others.
  • Exclusive MLA demo on the NEW ERA Fortress / Union Strongbolt / Yale PM560 decoder (Prototype tool, actual stocks ready before Christmas)
  • Demo of Securefast decoder on old and new type locks.
  • Q&A on all my tools if anyone needs specific help with anything they have brought.

(Book to obtain tickets – bookings made up to the 10th of September will have tickets sent to them, bookings thereafter will have tickets that can be picked up from the MLA stand at Expo)

Details for booking Places: Places limited to 20 per course
If not an MLA member, you will also need to provide a copy of a basic criminal record disclosure (or higher) that has been performed within the last 3 years


Chubb 114 Lock Picking

Course Tutor: Jeff Turner

Having been a practicing, hands-on locksmith since 1975, Jeff joined the MLA in 1990. Jeff is a tutor, inspector and member of the training committee for the association, whilst he also served as regional officer and both Chairman and Vice Chairman of the MLA’s board of directors in the past. He has recently sold his company (Keyhole Kates in Dagenham) but remains employed by it on part time basis. One of Jeff’s specialist areas is opening techniques, even having developed his own lock pick along with the late Terry Staddon.

Dates & Times of Course: Saturday 3rd October, 14:00 – 17.00 (Sa12)

Course Duration: 3 Hours

Course Content:

This hands-on course is aimed at teaching locksmiths to pick open in a matter of minutes one of the most popular BS3621 locks in the UK. Information will be provided on how to use this opening tool which has been designed to open the Chubb114/115 family of locks including the 114E versions. The tool works by taking a reading of the levers, decoding & building a key by inserting rollers into the picking tool.

£255 incl VAT for MLA members
£295 incl VAT for non MLA members
(Special one-off Expo deal as usual price is over £300 + VAT)

Costs include the provision of a Staddon/Turner Chubb 114 pin and cam decoder pick.

If you already have the pick and want a refresher on how to use it then please feel free to bring your own and you can attend the course for:

£24 incl VAT for MLA members
£36 incl VAT for non-members
